Our investigation identifies cases where Endless Mayfly content led to incorrect media reporting and caused confusion among journalists, and accusations of intentional wrongdoing.We call this technique “ephemeral disinformation”. This technique creates an appearance of legitimacy, while obscuring the origin of the false narrative. Once Endless Mayfly content achieves social media traction, it is deleted and the links are redirected to the domain being impersonated.In some cases, these personas also privately and publicly engage journalists, political dissidents, and activists. Inauthentic personas are then used to amplify the content into social media conversations. Endless Mayfly publishes divisive content on websites that impersonate legitimate media outlets.Endless Mayfly is an Iran-aligned network of inauthentic personas and social media accounts that spreads falsehoods and amplifies narratives critical of Saudi Arabia, the United States, and Israel.Using this network as an illustration, this report highlights the challenges of investigating and addressing disinformation from research and policy perspectives. Depending on the importance of the new sources of value creation (in different purchase situations), stationary retailing may prevail as an important interaction point in a multichannel decision journey. We develop a framework that identifies five new sources of value creation and propose how these advance and transform competition for this interface. Adopting a value-creation perspective, we analyze how digitization started the erosion of institutional retailing as the primary interface to the customer. With the rise of e-commerce, mobile shopping, and most recently smart technologies, new competitors threaten this long-standing supremacy. Consumers have traditionally made purchase decisions at the store shelf, giving institutional brick-and-mortar retailers great power to learn about and influence behaviors and preferences.
